What is better than having your very own pizza with all of your own favorite toppings? Did you know, you can make restaurant-quality pizza without having to leave home, or wait for delivery, for a fraction of the cost?
The entire bag of frozen dinner rolls that I bought for this cost me less than 5 bucks! That’s far less than the gratuity alone when going out for pizza! Once thawed and proofed, the individual doughs can be stretched thin, just like pizza crust! Then, simply add toppings and bake for a few minutes!
Place frozen rolls on a sheet pan.
Line the pan first with parchment to prevent them from sticking. Give them each a few inches of space to grow. Cover them loosely with plastic, then leave them on the kitchen counter for approximately 5 hours to rise.
When ready, they will have doubled in size.
My preferred way to stretch the dough is by hand. You could use a rolling pin, but by hand gives you that really authentic, rustic pizzeria aesthetic and texture. Be gentle when stretching so they don’t tear. I like my crusts pretty thin, so when I stretched mine, I did it until the dough was practically translucent when I held it up to the light.
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
Use any toppings you like!
Here’s what we had on hand today. One of my favorite things about pizza is that it is a blank canvas. There is really no limit on the flavor combinations from sauces, cheeses, veggies, etc, … that can be used!
Put the whole family to work making dinner!
This is a fun way to get kids to actually want to help with dinner! It’s a great activity for parties and sleepovers! Just set out the frozen dough in the morning, then when it’s time to make dinner, set out a variety of toppings for everyone to construct their own pizzas!
Bake in a really hot oven!
To get a nice, crisp crust, the oven needs to be very hot before placing the pizzas inside. Bake for at least 8 minutes for pizza that is golden brown and bubbly. If you prefer a more well-done crust, bake for up to 10 minutes. They will be super hot right out of the oven, so be mindful of that with kids. But as for me, a burnt tongue will never stop me from immediately chowing down on pizza!
